Human Trafficking In Vietnam On The Rise

HANOI, Sept 10 (Bernama) -- Human traffickers in Vietnam have targeted not only women and children but also men for labour exploitation and sales of human organs, the Vietnam news agency (VNA) reported.

It is estimated that 2,800 women and children were trafficked between 2005 and June 2008, the 130/CP Steering Board said in a seminar here.

The seminar, co-organised by the 130/CP Steering Board and the Asia Foundation, sought ways to raise the effectiveness of cooperation in implementing the human trafficking prevention and combat programme in Vietnam,

The 130/CP Steering Board reported that in the first six months of this year, 430 children and women have fallen victim to human traffickers.

It also revealed that the law enforcement has found 180 locations of human trafficking nationwide with as many as 3,000 people being monitored for this illegal activity. [source]
